Hogweed flowers - Aubergine on green, A hand-printed, double pressed, original relief print.

The design is drawn directly onto a styrofoam plate, then cut and stamped to create the image. Safe-wash deep aubergine oil-based inks are used to roll over the plate and the print is hand pressed onto a circular, pastel green base.

The print is 23.5cm diameter on a 29.5x29.5 cm sheet of 120g/m acid free paper.

The styrofoam plates have a short life as they degrade slightly with every print, making each one unique and allowing only a small number to be made from each plate.

Prints are signed and are sold with a 16x16inch (40.5x40.5 cm) white mount to fit a standard size frame. The mount has a circular aperture with a bevelled edge and can be cut down to suit other frame sizes. (Please note: the sale does not include the frame)

The mounted print is sent out wrapped in cellophane between two sheets of corrugated card (as far as possible all packaging materials are recycled).

The print is inspired by the natural geometry that is found in each flowerhead of the Hogweed that is so common in the hedgerows during June and July.
Using styrofoam allows me to draw directly onto the plate which gives the image a natural movement as each flower is carefully drawn in relation to the others.

I started using styrofoam to make the plates for prints as I loved the circles of styrofoam that a shop bought pizza came on and for me they will always be called pizzabase prints.

Pizzas now come on cardboard, but I have continued to use styrofoam for its versatility.
