This listing is for a handcrafted ceramic vase, in the style of a contemporary tulipiere. Originating in the 17th century, ornate vases were constructed to hold and display tulips, the idea being that a bulb or stem was inserted into various spouts around the neck of the vase. Instead of spouts, this tulipiere has been constructed with openings, two tiers of four around the neck, as well as the main opening at the top, allowing for multiple flower stems of varying lengths to be displayed. Handcrafted from white stoneware, this vase measures approximately 25cms tall and has a diameter of 8cms. Each of the side openings is approximately 4cmsx5cms. Geometric carving enhances the green glazing, while cherry red dots complete the look.
This vase will be double boxed with lots of packing to ensure secure postage.
I came across this style of vase in a magazine article and it looked like a fun piece to make. It was challenging for a number of reasons, but worth the effort I think.
