The Sea Mask has been hand built using a light buff Stoneware clay, the face partially obscured with texture press moulded in a cast made from real seaweed and shells collected from the shore.
After careful drying to drive out excess moisture from the piece, the work is then biscuit fired before a variety of oxides and glazes are used to colour and enhance the wall art, before a second kiln firing going to a high frost proof temperature.
This piece has a hanging mechanism incorporated in the back of the piece and is stamped with my makers mark.
Measuring 16 cm in height, 11 cm across at widest point and an approx depth of 6 cm at deepest point.

Inspired by both sides of the Forth Valley shore line, Falkirk to Bo'ness, Lime Kilns to Queensferry, these Sea Masks are evocative of the water, nature and shoreline.
Repeating a recurring theme that runs throughout my art work, studying the often fragile link between man, nature and how people have lived on the land throughout history, but also conveying a sense of peace and calmness in the art work.
This low relief wall art has been fired to a frost temperature, so safe for outdoors but equally happy indoors.
