Description

A stoneware mug with variations of colour deriving from the melting of the glaze into the wheel-thrown texture marks. The glaze is blue where thick and olive where thinner, and the splashes of brown derive from brush-applied iron oxide. This mug was thrown with a UK stoneware and assembled while still soft. After biscuit firing and glazing it was fired to 1300C to make it impermeable and durable. This mug is food, oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe and measures approximately 11cm tall and 8cm wide. The bottom is impressed with my seal, the letter P, and its identity number 9940.

Inspiration

I really enjoy the whole process of throwing and assembling mugs. This one has a homely feel and is reminiscent of the colour palette you might find in an Cezanne painting. The deep surface texture marks are highlighted by the glaze. This mug makes a personal artistic statement and can be directly enjoyed while drinking your favourite tea or coffee blend.
