Walking over a bridge in Monreale in Sicily (just outside the lovely cathedral there) in 2012 is the first time I ever saw the tradition of romantic couples securing padlocks to the railings of a bridge to proclaim their love. I loved seeing the scratched initials fading away on the rusting metal amidst the stunning scenery.
