Item details

PS Maid of the Loch is the last British-built paddle steamer, constructed in the Inglis yard on the Clyde in 1953. She was then dismantled and the sections transported by rail to Loch Lomond, where she was reassembled. The railway line now terminates in Balloch, but it used to run right to the pier where the Maid was berthed. She provided a cruise service on Loch Lomond until 1981, and then lay abandoned at her pier for years. She was finally acquired by the Loch Lomond Steamship Company in 1995. They have been steadily restoring her ever since, with a view to resuming cruise trips on the Loch. She is usually open in the summer season as a static attraction, and is available for functions. Progress is such that seeing her sail once more is a real possibility. Fingers crossed!

I am deeply interested in Scotland's history, wildlife, and landscapes. I enjoy taking photographs and then digitally altering them, and I hope that you find this new, slightly skewed perspective intriguing!
