Item details

A perfectly balanced gymnast holding a wide straddled planche on the beam. She is mostly all white in colour but with a mottled ombré effect from head to mid torso in violet and bright blue and the base has a matching pearlescent blue border. She balances on a base which is slightly under 4"/9cm in diameter so it's the perfect size to sit on a small shelf, desk or bedside unit. A unique piece which would be an ideal gift for any fan of gymnastics.

The whole piece is sealed with textile hardener and has felt protection on the base.

Height includes base: 12X22x11cm. Base diameter 9cm/ around 3.5”.

I've always loved a great splits planche ever since Natalia Shaposhnikova showed how it's done back in the day. It looks like a simple enough position to sculpt but weirdly, it's proved quite hard to do. This is the third one I've tried and I finally got the legs to look right! Yay. I'll be doing more of these for an upcoming acro gymnastics series so I'm glad I figured it out.

Interesting fact: this started out as a seated rhythmic gymnast holding a ball...it just looked wrong from the start and somehow got transformed into a hand balance.
