This gorgeous black grainy leather is very tactile, folds nicely in half and feels very satisfying to hold in the hands. Although it is slim, it has quite a lot of pages as the paper is quite thin, 45g/m2 (there is a pen tester loose leaf page in the back), and would make a perfect desk top notebook, or something to slip in to a bag & carry around. As the leather was originally for motorbike leathers, it is hard-wearing and is sewn with waxed tiger thread, giving it a sturdy feel, despite the delicate feel of the pages inside, where it has black & gold Zoffany 'Willow Song' wallpaper as endpapers. The book measures 16 x 11 x 2 cm and comes in its own hand-made gift box. Each book I make is unique, numbered (this one is 2,209) and signed.

The motorbike leathers were beautifully soft and supple even though they were designed to protect the wearer in a crash. It took me about three days to take them apart (I saved the jacket with the heavy protection removed, for me to wear in my mid-life crisis) and this piece just folded in half in my hand and was a perfect fit for my super-thin 'Bank' paper that I had, which from the packaging on the box looks to date from the 1960/70's and was produced by Yates, Duxbury & Sons Ltd. from the Heap Bridge Paper Mills in Bury, Lancashire. I love the way that this standard 'run of the mill' (literally) product has over time taken on a preciousness, just because it has survived, intact.
