Every year swallows return to our field shelter here at Bramble Cottage to nest. When you spot your first swallow you know Summer is truly well on the way. It is also sad to see them depart in the Autumn but fingers crossed after their epic journey they will return to their Shropshire abode once again.
I wanted to give an impression of the puffed up appearance of the fledglings of these beautiful birds as they patiently wait for their parents to return with tasty snacks.
I began with watercolour but used pens and pencils to bring in some detail and movement to the composition. Finally I added splashes and paint flecks to bring the picture together and add a bit of fun.
