The soup mug is based on medieval loving cups. I like the shape and the decoration of old English pots and try to find a modern use these highly decorative pots.
Approximately 11 cm high and holds a pint.
Loving cups have a long history and pre-dates 1066. It is thought it started out as a shared drinking vessel so that drinking partners could protect each other while the other drinks.
This developed into ceremonial use, including weddings, and then to trophies. The FA cup is still filled with champagne and passed around the winning team (pre covid of course).
While many loving cups were made of silver, English 17th 18th and 19th century slipware pottery provided some of the most beautiful examples.
My loving cups aren't historical copies but are heavily influenced by different periods of pottery production.
