A simple, hand-built stoneware vase with colours that reflect the interaction of the glaze with the clay minerals and the surface texture. This vase would be great for showing off a bouquet of flowers or displaying just on its own. It was made with a UK stoneware and, after biscuit firing, the piece was fired to 1300C to make it impermeable and very durable. The vase measures approximately 24cm tall and 9cm wide and is dishwasher safe. The bottom is impressed with my seal, the letter P, and its identity number 9827.
My interest in vases relates to their sculptural potential and to their function for displaying flowers or other natural materials. On this vase the sloping stamped marks provide a strong and dynamic surface texture. This oval vase would sit happily on a display shelf or could be a vessel to help its owner create an original and eye-catching Ikebana display.
