These fused glass wall hanging mackerel are slightly smaller than their larger buddies (also available) at 22cm, but feature the same stylised design and luminescent glass, making them an ideal indoor or outdoor decoration on their own or as part of a shoal.
The fish come with either a green, turquoise or blue back, and incorporate luminescent glass which shimmers with a metallic sheen in certain lights. Each is finished with hand-painted enamel stripes and discrete wire hooks for easy hanging / fixing in your chosen location.
Stock Status - This Creature's stock status is: In Stock
I currently have the numbered fish available.
How it's made - I cut the various pieces of glass needed, add two hanging hooks and fuse at a high temperature to melt the body into a single, smooth piece of glass. Then I add eyes and fins and paint the glass with enamel markings before fusing again at a lower temperature to give the final piece a 3D quality.
Creature Fact - Contempt for mackerel amongst some northern Norwegians can be traced back to the Bishop of Bergen (1698-1764) describing them as 'eating human flesh, seeking out those who swim in the nude, so the person will be quickly devoured if he falls in a school or shoal of mackerel'. Sounds unlikely but probably best not to play with these in the bath just in case.
I like fish! We have a mini collection of metal fish sculptures, so it made sense to make some glass ones to keep them company.
