This Shrink pot has been made out of a piece of Sycamore branch that had been turned on my lathe when fresh and unseasoned into a tube. A groove was cut around the bottom edge and a dry seasoned ash disk was fitted into the groove. After several months the body of the pot dried out and shrunk tightly onto the bottom disk ,' hence shrink pot'. When stabilised and dry a tight fitting lid was turned out of a piece of Ash. The interior has not had any finish applied and the exterior has a light coat of food safe linseed oil. Sycamore does not impart any taint to food so the pot is ideal for storing dry food stuff such as tea or biscuits etc,
The exterior decoration is burnt into the wood using a hot wire and depicts Cranes flying overhead at Horsey in Norfolk just down the road for my workshop. Measures 44mm internal diameter, 160mm internal depth.

Shrink pots are a traditional folk craft that make good use of branch wood utilising the properties of 'green wood" to make functional treen. When I am able to source local freshly cut branches I like to make good use of the material. Although the making of these items is very labour intensive the end result is worth the effort
