This is a digital pattern supplied in the form of a PDF and contains instructions to make the beaded bauble ornament cover shown in the photos. It fits over a 7cm Christmas tree bauble. It is not attached to the bauble in any way, it is just placed over the top and it stays securely in place once in use. It can be easily removed at any time but cannot just fall off.

Beading level: suitable for beginners as well as more advanced beaders. It is explained in great detail and is very easy to follow.

You will need size 11 seed beads, 6mm bugle beads, 280 4mm round beads or size 6 seed beads or other 4mm beads of any shape, a beading needle and thread, and a glass or shatterproof round Christmas tree bauble ornament measuring 7cm wide. The photos will give you lots of ideas for colour variations and then I'm sure you'll be able to come up with more of your own.

As well as beadwork I love to crochet. I had seen patterns for traditional crochet pineapple motifs and wondered if it was possible to make a bead version. After all, they both use a single really long thread. Lots of motifs in a row would have made a really nice bracelet. A pineapple shape from beads took a lot of experimenting because you can squash crochet stitches into one spot but of course can't do that with beads, but it turned out beautifully and I was really pleased with it. It was far too big for a bracelet though and I started wondering what else I could do with it. Then I happened to see a box of baubles on top of a tall cupboard in the dining room and that gave me an idea. Three pineapple motifs almost covered the bauble then I added drops to the bottom and linked them together with strands of seed beads. It looked wonderful! Having done that first bauble I suddenly found myself full of inspiration for more designs and have been really enjoying myself with them.
