This freestanding fused glass wave depicts the incoming tide along the Glamorgan Heritage Coast.

It is made from a combination of smooth and textured glass to give it a sculptural fee, and comes in glorious aqua and turquoise colours which really glow in the light. No seaside scene would be complete without gulls so I have hand-painted a few to add an element of life.

The versatile Incoming Tide wave can be placed on a windowsill so that when the sun shines through the glass, the colours of the scene are thrown onto the surface in front of it. It can also be displayed against a pale plain wall where its colours can be appreciated in their true brightness.

Making the wave is a lengthy and fiddly process. I start by cutting and layering sheet glass which is then fused together in my kiln overnight. More glass is added before firing again and once it has cooled, the piece is fired for the final time to get its curved shape.

The piece is 23cm long, 13.5cm high and 3.5cm deep. Should it need a clean, it is easily wiped over with warm soapy water. Your curve will posted Signed For and will arrive securely packaged in a double walled box with as much recyclable material as possible.

The Incoming Tide wave is my attempt to capture waves breaking on a beach along the Glamorgan Heritage Coast, near my home in South Wales. It is fascinating to sit and watch the waves as they roll in, creating new patterns and colours each time.

As a keen walker, the fabulous scenery of this the Jurassic coastline with its rough sea provides lots of inspiration for fused glass pieces. I snap away on my phone as I walk, capturing scenes which I later use back in my workshop.
