Item details

Thrown on the potter's wheel, this Posy Vase has been left to dry after having it's base trimmed, before being fired.
Coming out of the kiln for the first time, a base of stoneware glaze is poured over the case, then bands of alternating oxides and glazes are built up to achieve q landscape like effect using liquid wax to act as a resist to enhance the effect.
The wax will quickly burn off in the kiln when fires for a second time to a high temperature.
This miniature vase measure approximately 11 cm in height, 6 cm wide and is 4.8 cm in diameter at the opening.

These miniature vases are designed as if a free standing, three dimensional painting.
Inspired by the local landscape, I wanted to evoke the feeling or memory of a walk along the Scottish Coast line.
Each one thrown with the same weight of clay but each one unique.
Just the right size to fit on a mantle piece or shelf and show off a few flowers, leaves or seed heads the have broken off in the garden or been found when out walking, depending on the season, but equally attractive when empty.
Each one stamped with my maker's mark.
