I was having a chat with a friend who told me she was tired of flimsy plastic seam rippers that broke after very little use, and that they feel uncomfortable in her hand.
This got me wondering if I could make a better one for her in wood.
After a lot of searching, I found a company selling the ripper inserts. They are meant to be pushed into a handle and when not in use pulled out, turned around and put blade first back in.
I tried this and - you guessed it - stabbed it into my hand!
So, after some head scratching, I came up with this design. The blade is fixed in the handle and a separate matching cover pushes on to protect the blade and your hand when it’s in the sewing box.
