An attractive bowl showing subtle variations of cream, tan and pale blue reflecting the melting of the glaze, its thickness and its interaction with the iron oxide decoration. There is a stork on one leg poised to strike stamped centrally inside. The pale blue on the underside and the cream is where the glaze has ran and pooled. The olive brown streaks come from iron oxide brush-applied decoration. The bowl was thrown with a UK stoneware and, after biscuit firing and glazing, the piece was fired to 1300C to make it impermeable and very durable. The glaze was applied in several layers to obtain the required thicknesses inside and out. This wheel thrown bowl is perfect for display or for a decorative filling of fruit or potpourri. The bowl measures approximately 6cm tall and 17cm wide.and is food, oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe. The bottom is impressed with my seal, the letter P, and its identity number 9839
I enjoy the whole process of throwing, shaping and decorating bowls in anticipation of the the clay body, glaze and kiln firing interactions. The bowl was fired with a titanium glaze that flows and pools inside to display the exotic streaking patterns seen in images from space missions. The underside has pale blue and cream glaze runs over textural decoration, an individual stamped pot number and my personal mark, a small letter P This bowl would make a personal statement on a table or shelf with or without contents and invites inquisitive handling. With the image of the stork it would be an ideal gift to commemorate a new arrival.
