Item details

This heart garland contains 9 hearts suspended from a pale beige recycled woven cotton cord. It features some beautiful woven upholstery fabric remnants and samples, as well as upcycled velvet from a scarf, and there is a hanging loop at each end. The hearts are embellished with vintage and contemporary beads and buttons that I have collected over the years. It's a good length for a single bed, large mirror, dresser or window.

Classier than bunting, all seams are fully enclosed and each heart is upholstered with cotton felt from upholstery projects (NOT polyester, which is not recyclable or biodegradable). Friends have hung them on bedsteads, over doors, mirrors or pictures, mantlepieces, in archways, and on walls.

Each heart measures approximately 8cm x 8cm at the widest point, and this heart string measures approximately 1.1 metres end to end.

They will be packaged in a recycled cardboard box lined with recycled tissue paper.

I have made all kinds of lavender and padded hearts over the years, and I wanted to make a longer lasting and classier version of bunting. I found that the luxurious and sturdier nature of upholstery fabric remnants, as well as some upcycled clothing create deliver the quality I was looking for, and I then embellished with beads and buttons and suspended them from this soft recycled woven cotton cord. I enjoy taking the time to match up the colours, textures and patterns and then selecting beads and buttons that will highlight the fabrics.
