Some time ago, in my little Welsh cottage, I saw something beautiful in the messy chunks of wood that were meant for the log burner. I found myself standing studying each log before we used them to keep warm. Their whirls and imperfections, their textures and blemishes.
I began saving the pieces that most caught my eye, taking them to carve and polish, revealing wonderful curves and earthy grain. I decided that I couldn’t burn another piece (and switched to paper logs so that my family wouldn’t freeze). I gradually added bright colours and found to my surprise that I started to see those colours everywhere in nature. I've never looked back.
This fascination soon became my work, and I opened up a gallery and workshop in Llandudno. This was a long time ago and I’ve grown and moved on since then to include many other materials such as recycled pencils, aluminium and clear or pigmented resin.
