A delightful bowl showing subtle variations of colour reflecting the melting of the glaze, its thickness and its interaction with the iron oxide decoration. The purple haze, pale blue and cream is where the glaze has ran to the centre and pooled. The orange brown derives from iron oxide brush-applied decoration. The bowl was thrown with a UK white stoneware and, after biscuit firing and glazing, the piece was fired to 1300C to make it impermeable and very durable. The glaze was applied in several layers to obtain the required thicknesses inside and out. This wheel thrown bowl is perfect for display of its vibant colours or for a decorative filling of fruit or potpourri. The bowl measures approximately 6cm tall and 21cm wide.and is food, oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe. The bottom is impressed with my seal, the letter P, and its identity number 9849
I love the whole process of throwing and shaping bowls. The bowl was fired with a titanium glaze that flows and pools inside to display the exotic turbulent patterns seen in images from space missions. The underside has pale blue and cream glaze runs over textural decoration, an individual stamped pot number and my personal mark, a small letter P This bowl would make a personal statement on a table or shelf with or without contents and invites inquisitive handling. Equally it could be directly functional for cooking and serving food.
