Pottery bowl 9847 porcelain h59 x 160mm 435g
Description
An elegant, pale blue porcelain bowl with subtle colour variations reflecting the melting of the glaze into the texture markings. The inner and outer walls are lightly patterned with wheel-made textures. Inside there are the imprint of a hare and a brushed iron oxide depiction of a running man as might be found in an ancient cave painting. The bowl was thrown with a UK porcelain and after biscuit firing and glazing the piece was fired to 1300C to make it impermeable and very durable. This bowl is perfect for breakfast cereal or alternatively it could simply be displayed just for its visual appeal. The bowl measures approximately 6cm tall and 16cm wide and is food, oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe. The bottom is impressed with my seal, the letter P, and its identity number 9847.
Inspiration
I am intrigued by Oriental ceramics and delicate celadon glazes such as those from Song dynasty. I have been trying to obtain the pale blue colour that can be found on special pieces. There are only certain parts of the kiln where the effect can be achieved but customer feedback encourages me to refine the process. The bowl is given a primitive theme with the shaggy, running figure and hare imprint. This bowl would make a personal statement on a table or shelf with or without contents and invites conversation and handling.
