A hand-thrown porcelain vase that is deep red where the glaze is thick and white where thinner. It was made with a UK porcelain and, after biscuit firing to 1000 C and glazing the piece was fired for a second time to 1300 C to make it impermeable and very durable. The vase is dishwasher safe and measures approximately 11 cm tall and 8 cm wide. The bottom is impressed with my seal, the letter P, and its identity number 9670.
I love making red porcelain vases because I am told that they can become focal points in their decorative scheme. I want to engage with people by providing them with something thoughtfully handmade that contributes their home decor. My interest in this challenging type of glaze derives from previous technical research on high temperature materials and processes and an admiration of early Song dynasty red porcelains.
