An elegant very pale blue celadon porcelain jar with subtle colour variations reflecting the melting and flow of the glaze into and around the stamped markings. The glaze is transparent where thin and pale blue where it has pooled in the medallion and hand stamps. This hand-built jar is perfect for jewelry, spices, condiments, herbs or your small precious items. The jar was made with a UK porcelain and, after biscuit firing and glazing the piece was fired to 1300C to make it impermeable and very durable. The jar measures approximately 13cm tall and 8cm wide. The bottom is stamped with my seal, the letter P, and its identity number 9883.
I enjoy making lidded jars because I am told by returning customers that they often get used regularly. I want to engage with people by providing them with something thoughtfully handmade that usefully fits into their daily routine. The jar is provided with a well-fitting lid to add to the pleasure of its use. The surfaces have indentations and stamps to retain a layer of glaze and there are dashes of brush-applied green-brown iron oxide to add an abstract visual interest. This jar pays homage to my interests in the painted marks left on rocks and cave walls by our prehistoric ancestors and in the graceful Chinese porcelains of the Song Dynasty.
