This perfectly formed porcelain vase will be great for a small posy of flowers or a small succulent plant. Ideally, for Christmas it will hold a tea light on the table setting.
I made this little pot from porcelain clay, thrown on the potters wheel. I found porcelain clay to be the perfect background to paint on and it gives a wonderful contrast to the thinner areas of glaze. After throwing on the wheel i turned a small foot ring on the base, then signed the base 'by les' by stamping into the clay.
I painted a sweet pea flower pattern in an abstract style using masked areas as well as sgraffito marks that pick up the stain. Following drying the piece I fired it in my electric kiln. I then glazed the pot in a green glaze, fired the piece again at a hotter temperature 1,240 degrees centigrade.
The size of the vase is: height 8 cms. x 7 cms. diameter at the rim.
I have used lead free glaze on this pot making it food safe. The vase is also dish washer safe, although hand washing is better to prolong the glaze shine over years.
The vase will be carefully packed by myself using recycled packaging wherever possible to help the environment and would encourage buyers to do the same if possible.
Thank you for taking time to look at my shop.
The starting point for this vase were the sketches I made after a visit to Bladnoch, Scotland. This is where masses of wild sweet peas were growing on a country lane. The hundreds of flower shapes and compositions were an artists dream, especially as there was somewhere to sit whilst I sketched.
I chose porcelain to make the pot in as it enhances the delicate nature of the sweet pea flower and the smoothness of the clay just me to scratch the drawing into .
