This Tawny Owl has been needle-felted on to Taupe Linen fabric using a multitude of different wool fibres to capture the individual detail of the feathers and branch.
The picture is built up with small pieces of merino and other wool fibres they have been attached with a barbed needle and repeated stabbing results in the fibres to becoming felted on to the fabric.
The piece has then been machine stitched, with frayed edges, on to beige finer weave linen and then stretched over a canvas frame. The canvas measures 30 x 40 cm and has been strung so is ready to hang.
I have not been framing my latest pieces behind glass and am pleased that the detail is now more visible, the pieces are well felted with no loose fibres and are rather tactile!
Part of a series of needle-felted birds and animals on fabric. I love the way you can use wool to replicate the feeling of feather and fur and blend the colours of the wool, as you would with paint, to create all the shades required.
