Item details

A porcelain wheel-thrown teapot with a pulled handle and a dark red glaze. The glaze breaks from red to white where thin to show the underlying porcelain. The lid has a retaining tab to prevent it from falling forward when pouring. The wall behind the spout is perforated to retain tea leaves. The pot was made with a UK porcelain and, after the biscuit firing the piece was glazed and fired to 1300C. This makes it impermeable and very durable.
- The pot measures approximately 10cm tall and 11cm wide excluding the handle.
- The bottom is impressed with my seal, the letter P, and its identity number 9869

I like making teapots because they get used regularly as a start to the day. I want to engage with people by providing them with something handmade that comfortably fits into their routine. I take care to make a well-fitting lid to add to the pleasure of its use. This teapot was inspired by my long-term interest oriental copper-red glazes and teapot designs. The shape feels comforting to me, perhaps because it reminds me of the kettle that an old aunt used on her gas stove .
