I love the shape of the domed cover for my butter dishes because it is a good canvas on which to display the glaze colour. The medallion on the dome and the stork stamped in the saucer are motifs deriving from a formative interest in oriental ceramics and painting. The stork is also a reminder that the dish can also be used for margarine. The pale blue and white transparent glaze around the stork frames a picture for contemplation after eating your crumpets or toast.
