Description

A porcelain cup with variations of colour deriving from the melting of the glaze into the wheel-thrown texture marks. The glaze is blue where thick and transparent blue-green where thin. The small areas of brown derive from brush-applied iron oxide decoration. This cup was thrown with a UK porcelain and assembled while still soft. After biscuit firing and glazing it was fired to 1300C to make it impermeable and very durable.
- This mug is food, oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe and measures approximately 6cm tall and 9cm wide.
- The bottom is impressed with my seal, the letter P, and its identity number 9888.

Inspiration

I enjoy the whole process of throwing and assembling cups. This one has a homely feel and is reminiscent of the colour palette you might find in an impressionist painting. The deep surface texture marks are highlighted by the glaze varying from blue-green where thin and rich blue where thicker. This mug would make a personal decorative statement in a display cabinet and invites inquisitive handling. Equally it could be directly enjoyed while drinking your favourite tea or coffee blend.
