A little jewel of a vase in white stoneware clay thrown by me on the potters wheel. After throwing the vase shape I turned a footring I then signed on the base 'by les' stamped into the clay. I painted an abstract design inspired by the Christmas poinsettia plant with green, red, yellow, white, black coloured slips and incised marks through them. Also using wax resist technique creating different depths in it's surface. After this stage I fired the vase in my electric kiln to 950 degrees centigrade. Following the first firing I dip glazed the vase in a green glaze and fired it again at a higher stoneware temperature.
The inside matt pattern contrasts with the more minimal green textured celadon glaze on the outer surface, the glaze is slightly transparent and deeper in colour graduated towards the rim.
Vase height 6.5 cms x 11.5 cms diameter
The glaze is lead free and dishwasher safe, although handwashing is best to prolong the glaze shine.
I will wrap the vase very carefully before posting out to the customer on receipt of payment.
Thank you for looking at my shop.
Inspiration began from my sketch book drawings of various poinsettia plants. Always looking at nature to draw, I was intrigued by the sharp edges of the leaves, also the vibrant colour and texture and the contrast of reds and greens within the leaves.
