This is a small watercolour and ink painting of the fields near where I live here in East Devon. It comes ready to hang, mounted with acid-free mountboard, and the solid wood soft grey painted frame in the pictures.

Size: 6"x6", frame exterior is 10"x10".

Why 'red earth'? Because where I live, the soil is the most incredible colour, as are the cliffs. They are full of red sandstone and the paint I use most often to paint them is called 'red earth' - it looks as though I could have scooped it straight out of the landscape. Full of texture and grain, the paint splits when it hits textured paper and this is why I love it so much.

This painting was sketched whilst out on one of my regular rambles, back in the Spring. The fields and furrows around my house remain an ensuring fascination for me - this field has a lot of rooks circling above it which I see most evenings as they roost in the tall trees behind my house.
