This was painted on location in the woods on the outskirts of Sidmouth, Devon, where I live. In early Summer the hedgerows in the lanes around here are humming with life.

This original watercolour is 11.5x8.5 inches, unframed and unmounted. It will arrive with you protected by a backing board and cellophane wrapping. If you would prefer this artwork supplied with a mount, then I can supply it with a gentle off-white mount that will fit a 16x12 inch standard size frame - just use the orange button at the right of this page to add a mount (additional £10 mounted).

Interesting West Country fact: The tall hedgerows that often overhang narrow lanes with ancient trees growing out of the top are called 'Devon banks'. I have often wondered what they call them over the border in Dorset!

I spend a lot of time in the countryside finding inspiration and often painting whilst I am out and about. On this occasion I ended up sitting in the middle of a woodland path next to a hedgerow, my paints on the ground around me.

I did end up with a companion though - a blackbird flew down and stood watching me paint for quite a long while, I think it was disappointed I hadn't brought a packed lunch to share :)
