Item details

Each box has been constructed from slabs, then a crow modelled and carved on top. I don’t use templates so each one is different in its dimensions and who has seen identical birds?

The carving used on the crows adds to the differences in the finish of the glazes. Glaze pooling in the carved areas and I gently wipe the surface to add to the contrast. All the boxes have feet, which was inspired by ceremonial boxes.

10cm high 6.5 wide 4 cm deep

While I might go birdwatching and see crows, I’m never quite sure who is watching who. Clever birds who just seem to be holding some great secret from us.

A smaller more compact piece of carving. Rich brown highlights, soft blue and green/brown colours all blend together on the bird and the body of the box. A more friendly bird, one we could dream of taming (slightly and on its own terms obviously).

Here they are sat on top of these boxes guarding the contents. Each box has a very individual Crow atop it. Hand modelled and carved, I give each one a slightly different pose.

Deep dry glaze to accentuate the strength of these birds. Not suitable for prolonged contact with food.
