I created this adorable little dish on the potters wheel in a white stoneware clay. This is a unique handmade ceramic dish with a poinsettia design is an ideal Christmas theme, the perfect gift for a flower lover.
After throwing on the potters wheel I signed the dish underneath 'by les' stamped into the clay. Next I painted an abstract pattern in coloured slips, inspired by drawings I made in my sketchbook. I used wax resist technique and scratching through the surface to make the pattern.
After the dish was dry I fired it in my kiln at 950 degrees centigrade. Next I dip glazed the pot in a green glaze and fired it again at 1240 degrees centigrade.
The glaze finish has an earthiness, rustic quality to it.

Dish size: Height 3.5 cms x 12.5 cms diameter

The dish will be carefully packed by me using recycled materials were possible and posted on receipt of payment

Thank you for looking at my shop.

Drawing from nature is my usual starting point, inspired by the sharp edges of the poinsettia leaves, the colour and texture which I tried to create in my painting which evolved into this semi abstract design. The dish is part of a series of ceramics I based on the poinsettia plant, all very unique in their own right.
