Truly a little gem of a dish with it's contrast of white porcelain and the glaze which is celadon, a transparent glaze with a hint of green.
I made this dish by throwing on the potters wheel and decorating with a flower painting. The design is of a Rhododendron flower painted in a semi abstract way.
The exciting colour and texture which has my drawing marks scratched into the surface while the clay was still damp. When I had completed the design I turned a foot-ring at the base and signed the piece on the base 'by les'.
The dish dried, I then fired the piece in my kiln and I later washed over black stain which picks up the drawing I made.
I fired the dish again in my kiln to 1240 degrees centigrade, then glazed some of the surfaces of the dish in celadon glaze giving a subtle pastel green shiny look.
I fired the dish again in my kiln to 1240 degrees centigrade,
The size of the dish is Height 5 cms x 12 cms rim diameter
The dish is lead free and dish washer safe, although handwashing is always best in prolonging the glaze shine.
The dish will be packed very carefully and posted on receipt of payment.
I find inspiration while walking my dog in the countryside and this dish is part of a series I made based on rhododendron flowers. I love the majestic shapes and colours of the flowers from which I made lots of sketches which I later used for the designs on my pots.
