Inspired by a trip to the Black Isle, some 20+ years ago, where we visited various celtic and pictish sites, as well as the Groam House Museum.
The symbolism behind many celtic and pictish images remains unresolved, and it is hard to comprehend how such images were often carved into monumental stone edifices. The interlacing patterns are a wonder to behold and can give you a headache when attempting your own.
The beard pullers originate in Ireland, but appear in similar form in other countries and cultures. Sometimes associated with merchants, reconciliation, wrestling...... The jury is out....so you can decide for yourself.
