Reclaimed oak tea light holder, finished with pure, cold-pressed linseed oil

Reclaimed oak tea light holder, finished with pure, cold-pressed linseed oil

Description

This tea light holder has been crafted using off cuts of reclaimed oak, a wood which is hard wearing, with amber and golden tones in the grain; a delight to look at and hold. A welcome addition to a plastic free, sustainable home. Each tea light has its own wonderfully unique patina.

The measurements are approx:
12cm length, 4cm width (narrowest part), 7cm (widest part) and 4.5cm depth.

I’ve carefully chamfered and sanded the wood to ensure the oak is smooth. Pure, cold-pressed linseed oil is then applied to give a slight sheen which brings out the grain and doesn’t detract from the wood’s natural beauty and simplicity. NO nasty varnishes or cheap, chemical finishes have been used.

Avoid leaving the oak tea light holder to stand in water if used by the side of a bath.
Tea light is not included.

This listing is for ONE tea light - photos of more than one are just to show how they could be grouped.

Each one is thoughtfully and beautifully wrapped using only plastic free packaging.

Inspiration

I decided to start working with oak off cuts as I see every part of the oak tree as precious and shouldn’t be wasted. I find the finish on many tea light holders is almost plastic looking, with their shiny varnish finishes which try too hard to ‘beautify’ the wood. I feel that a simple finish with a traditional, pure, unadulterated, cold-pressed linseed oil is all that it needed and highlights the natural beauty and simplicity of oak.

I never tire of working with wood as it has such a calming effect. Oak particularly appeals to the senses - the texture, the deep amber hues in the grain and its sweet, earthy fragrance.

John Keats, a poet from the 19th century once wrote, ‘A thing of beauty is a joy forever.’ This is definitely one of those ‘things’.
