Description

An elegant, pale blue-green porcelain bowl with colour variations reflecting the melting and flow of the glaze into the stamped markings. The inner and outer walls are lightly patterned with wheel-made textures. Inside there are the imprint of an auroc (a prehistoric oxen) as might be found in an ancient cave painting. The bowl was thrown with a UK porcelain and after biscuit firing and glazing the piece was fired to 1300C to make it impermeable and very durable. This bowl is perfect for salad or fruit. Alternatively it could simply be displayed just for its uplifting appearance or filled with aromatic potpourri..
- The bowl measures approximately 10cm tall and 21cm wide and is food, oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe.
- The bottoms is impressed with my seal, the letter P, and its identity number 9540.

Inspiration

I am intrigued by Oriental ceramics and delicate celadon glazes such as those from Song dynasty. I have been trying to obtain the pale blue-green colour that can be found on special pieces. There are only certain parts of the kiln where the effect can be achieved but customer feedback encourages me to refine the process. I really like the whole process of throwing and shaping bowls. When the bowl is turned over there is subtle textural decoration, an individual stamped pot number and my personal mark, a small letter P. This bowl would make a personal statement on a table or shelf with or without contents and invites conversation and handling. Equally it could be directly functional for serving salad, summer fruits or scenting the room with potpourri.
