This art quilt or prayer flag is made with natural linen, cotton fabric scraps and lace, all the materials that I use had been collected by me over the years. I like to buy what other people want to throw away a lot of fabric material end up in land fills, and I am very much aware of that so I try to use some of these to decorate my work.
Prayer flags are to be hung outside or near a door, so the wind can carry the prayers.
This piece of art can be for you, or for a very special person as a gift.
Is approx 8 1/2 inches wide by 13 inches tall
The cord that hung it is approx 16 inches
It comes with the piece of wood for a better hung.
The letters are hand embroidered
The collage is machine stitch
And the backing is a beautiful floral reclaimed piece of cotton

During lockdown I was home_ dying some reclaimed cotton which I bought from a nearby factory using vinegar and rustic bits that I found on my walks and in the garage. The images started speaking to me, and I decided to incorporate some of these bits in to this prayer flag. It has being in my head for along time to do this style of collage where I can combine hand and machine stitching.
I am always inspired by my own environment, my studio is full of samples and objects that I gather over the years. Others had been donate by friends etc. I try to use mainly bits that at some point will go in to the bin. That's one of the main reason I love to work with textiles _ the versatility and adaptability to make many different functions and forms.
