Item details

In olden times, Christmas started on Christmas Day - the first day of the twelve. Christmas Eve means the day before. This set of four images show some key points during the twelve days. In the 17th Century gifts were given at New Year, and Twelfth Night - the day when we take the decorations down -was the big party night where a King and Queen were elected for the night with music and dancing ending the season. Two of the images were inspired by pictures in the British Museum's collection and the other two are original designs.
