A rectangular Oxford Edge cushion made from a piece of vintage linen from the 1940s by fabric design company 'GP and J Baker'.
This beautiful fabric, which is in perfect condition, features a classical vase filled with flowers surrounded by decorative scrolls in lovely hues of light and dark teal (blues and greens) set against a rich terracotta ground.
The rear of the cushion is backed using a 'mallard teal' plush velvet fabric and the Oxford border is defined using a velvet gimp (called Maple Leaf) from the London-based Hip Haberdasher VV Rouleaux.
The zip (teal coloured) opening is at the rear and the cushion is filled with a British-made feather pad to provide a soft, informal cushion.
The cushion measures approximately 58 cm by 45 cm.
I am always really pleased to come across a piece of vintage GP & J Baker fabric - a high-end fabric design house founded in 1884 (still in existence today as Baker Lifestyle) as they have produced some of the most innovative and beautiful fabric designs over the last 140 years.
It is a testament to the quality of their fabric that this small piece from the 1940s is still in such perfect condition with rich colours after 80 years - I just wish I had more of it!
