Captain Hercule De Noix is a fearsome soldier carved from wood, with a colourful costume.He has the mechanism to crack small nuts, however, there are more efficient ways..

His design is based on the traditional form of a wooden soldier hero in in the story by Hoffman, "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King" the story behind Tchaikovsky's Ballet.

He has articulating arms able to wield a sword and support his national flag.
He has matching fur fabric hair and beard. He has black shiny boots and white breeches.

He stands 30cm tall and is 12cm wide at the widest point.

It would make an excellent Christmas decoration or a desk ornament.

It is robust enough to last for many years but is not suitable to be a toy for a child.

It stands on its own polished wooden plinth and would grace any mantle piece or table.

It would make an good talking point and an acceptable gift especially at Christmas.

For years a soldier that Fred made, one Christmas ,has stood on our mantle piece , together with two other soldiers bought for us when my brother lived in Germany.

Fred's soldier was definitely superior so he decided to make another based on his own design. He became so involved he made other shapes that have yet to be completed.

Ann was roped in to do some painting and the resulting Captain Hercule De Noix so named and given a French flag because he just looked French!
