Handmade lino cut print, signed, titled, dated, mounted (white), unframed.

Size of the mounted print is 70x50cm with a thickness of around 5mm. The mount size is a standard size to make finding a frame easier. The size of the aperture image is 60x40cm.

Materials include Cranfield oil based safe wash inks (made in the UK) and Fabriano Rosaspina paper (285gsm) which has a very high cotton content.

The ‘Microflora’ prints are limited editions and come in both a dark blue finish and a green finish. This page shows the green finish which makes the print feel ‘luscious’ in its colouring. There are only a total of 15 prints in this edition, 6 dark blue and 9 green. Each print is unique and varies slightly in colour and effect.

The process:

Lino printing involves carving out images and patterns from blocks of lino, layering with ink and hand pressing them onto paper to create relief prints. Reduction printing involves repeating this process layer by layer to create multi-coloured and detailed prints. This process destroys the lino with each layer meaning only a limited number of prints can be made from each lino block. Unlike digital printing, each handmade print will vary in colour and effect. These 'imperfections' are what make each print unique and rather beautiful!

The “Microflora” print edition is inspired by a trip I made last year with friends to Ambleside in the Lake District, UK. While walking up the mountains a summer storm enveloped us, the rain and wind seemed to awaken the greens and yellows surrounding us. I was overwhelmed by the colours and textures of the tiny botany blanketing the mountain. I felt as if I could just lean into their mossy walls and the mountains would consume me. This print design attempts to evoke that feeling.
