Trawling through old photos is often a starting point for work. I came across one of me, late 1950s, on Dymchurch beach. My childhood summers were spent here as my family had a deckchair business. I love the innocence, looking straight at the viewer, safe in familiar surroundings. The layered, blurred effect of dripped and rubbed back paint reflects the feeling of looking through to the past and faded memories.
