Item details
Having arrived to live in Llanddeusant, Carmarthenshire on a cold & foggy day, our first summer here made a deep impression on us. This is a wild & remote hamlet, set beneath the Black Mountain, but in June, the next door meadow heralded us with a cornucopia of native wild flowers. On this jar, I have used the colours from this wild flower meadow to create an impression of this vista.
The jar started life as 2 lumps of clay, which was then thrown on my Leach kickwheel, one making the jar & the other to form a neatly fitting lid. I hand pulled the handle to make a smooth flowing loop reminiscent of Art Nouveau.
After an initial low temperature firing, the jar was dipped in my specially prepared glazes & decorated with the colours. It then received its final firing to 1280 degrees Celsius.
The 17 cm high storage jar has many uses...for sugar, nuts, dried fruit to name a few.
