Item details
The historical references hinted at are of the Dutch Wars of the 1660s and 1670s when England battled the Netherlands for control of the sea. There was a famous incident in Chatham at that time, which Kentish people will know. In fact these prints were produced at Upnor Castle, across the Medway from Chatham, to celebrate the anniversary of that event in 1667. The tune is known, so this would make a lovely gift for people who enjoy folk music, history, or have a Kentish connection.
