Description

An elegant, palest blue green porcelain octagonal bowl with colour variations reflecting the melting and flow of the glaze into the stamped markings. The outer wall is lightly stamped and there is brushed iron oxide decoration inside and out . The bowl was thrown with a UK porcelain and shaped octagonal while still soft. After biscuit firing and glazing the piece was fired to 1300C to make it impermeable and very durable. This octagonal bowl is perfect for breakfast cereal or fruit. Alternatively it could simply be displayed just for its uplifting appearance.
- The bowl measures approximately 6cm tall and 17cm wide and is food, oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe.
- The bottoms is impressed with my seal, the letter P, and its identity number 9779.

Inspiration

I am intrigued by Oriental ceramics and delicate celadon glazes such as those from Song dynasty. I have been trying to obtain the pale blue-green that can be found on special pieces. There are only certain parts of the kiln where the effect can be achieved but good customer feedback encourages me to refine the process. I really like the whole process of throwing and shaping octagonal bowls. When the bowl is turned over there is an individual stamped pot number and my personal mark, a small letter P. The bowl would make a personal statement on a table or shelf with or without contents and invites conversation and handling. Equally it could be directly functional for food or potpourri.
