A beautiful lavender bag and love token in one, made from rare vintage fabric!

This generous heart has been made using a rare 1930s quilted and embroidered fabric.

The background of the fabric is heavily embroidered with a cream-coloured silk thread in an organic chainstitch pattern. The gently faded flower and leaf motifs (in soft hues of pinks, yellow and green) are outlined in metal thread which, I presume, was once bright gold but has now tarnished to an antiqued bronze colour which just adds to its overall vintage charm.

The outline of the heart has been edged using a modern ‘Arabian Sandstorm’ gold and yellow scroll gimp (from the London-based ‘Hip Haberdasher’ VV Rouleaux) and is interspersed with vintage glass beads of pink ‘rippled satin’.

The central bow and hanging loop has been made using ‘Old Azalea’ double-sided velvet ribbon and is finished with a genuine Victorian button in gilt metal and real mother of pearl which has a pink iridescence.

The heart has been filled with a mixture of soft stuffing and lots of dried Lavender to provide a plump and fragrant lavender bag with which to scent a room, wardrobe or delicate clothing drawer.

The heart measures approximately 25 cms x 15 cms (at its longest and widest points).

I just hate to see any small amount of fabric going to waste and so decided to use any offcuts of antique and rare fabrics I have to make lovely lavender bags or love tokens.
