My balcony planters were full of hydrangeas this year over looking the river, so I painted the river and collected the hydrangea heads as they started to fade. I created a floral waxwork by working with inks, beeswax, petals over the watercolour painting, so that an impression of the river comes through the dried flowers as if they are floating on the surface of the water as it ripples by. I love to capture flowers in this way; embalming the memory of when they were in full bloom and in a sense keeping the flowers forever. I love the delicacy and fragility of the paper thin petals and the beeswax, suspended in the wooden box-frame, like a museum exhibit. Please keep away from direct heat or sunlight.
