A beautiful square cushion made from antique 19th Century French fabric and pure cotton velvet.

This sumptuous fabric (front panel) dates from the 1870s (Napoleon III era) and features beautiful rosy blooms, autumnal russet-coloured leaves, flower-covered trees, neoclassical scrolls and even a castellated tower and small church! All these motifs are set against a dramatic black background.

The antique fabric has been teamed (back panel) with a modern, high-quality British pure cotton velvet in a gorgeous shade of 'old gold' to echo the autumnal coloured leaves and the gold in the generous vintage bullion tassel fringe (1970s) on the front panel.

Although in very good condition, the antique fabric is 150 years old and so the cushion has been interlined to add protection and robustness and all raw fabric edges have been overlocked for a professional finish.

The neutral coloured zip opening is at the base of the cushion which has been generously filled with a British-made feather pad to provide a plump but softly yielding cushion.

The cushion measures approximately 46 x 46 cms.

I only had one precious piece of this particular darkly exotic French 19th Century fabric (please see the rest of the 'Ooh La La' range for complementary and related period fabrics) and so wanted to make something really sumptuous but practical too.

Although this fabric was probably intended for the adornment of a wonderful French chateaux, I think this cushion would provide an unexpected focal point on a very modern sofa in a 21st Century home!
